EFFECTIVENESS IN VITRO OF SULFONAMIDE COMPOUNDS ON SPOROTRICHUM SCHENCKI

Abstract
During the past ten years 7 patients with sporotrichosis have been studied at Duke Hospital. Six of them acquired the infection while residing in North Carolina, which suggests that sporotrichosis is geographically more widespread than one might infer from the literature.1Most instances of the disease have been reported from the valleys of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Of the 7 Duke Hospital patients, 2 have been reported on previously2and the cases of the other 5 will be described briefly at the end of this article. Numerous reports of cases and surveys of the literature have appeared from time to time, but from the standpoint of treatment little has been added to the therapy of sporotrichosis during the past two decades. Foerster's report in 1926lacovers the subject well, and the accepted therapy as reviewed by him has still to be improved on. This
