Formation of High-Tc 110 K Superconducting Phase at the PbO/Bi2Sr2Ca4Cu6Oy Interfaces

Abstract
Reaction and intermixing at the PbO/Bi2Sr2Ca4Cu6O y interfaces led to the formation of a high-T c superconducting Phase of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O with a superconducting onset at about 110 K. Samples have been prepared by a solid state reaction in air. Samples, heat treated at about 845°C for 50–150 h, showed zero resistivity above 100 K. Both the ac susceptibility measurements and the X-ray powder diffraction revealed the high-T c phase. A sample without the interfaces did not become superconducting above 77 K after the same heat treatment. Although the superconducting properties of the samples were quite sensitive to the heating conditions, the growth of the high-T c phase was clearly promoted by the presence of the interfaces.
