Abstract
A study of the screening and damping properties of superconducting a.c. generators shows that a single screen is unlikely to provide both adequate screening and damping. The double screen gives improved performance but is subject to degradation of both properties because of interactions between the screens. An effective means of improvement is suggested and discussed. Keywords
