Abstract
5-Hydroxy-1-methoxyphenanthro[4,5-bcd]furan(I;R=MeO) was synthesized by dehydrogenation with 20% palladium on charcoal from 5,6,7,7a,8,9-hexahydro-1-methoxy-5-oxophenanthro[4,5-bcd]furan(XVII), which had itself been prepared via a naphthofuran derivative (XVI) starting from 5,8-dimethoxy-1-tetralone (VII).Keywords
