Abstract
From 1980 through 1992, antimicrobial prescribing rates for children by physicians in office-based practice in the United States increased by 48%.1 The increased use of antimicrobial drugs coincided with the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, an important clinical and public health problem.2-8 The association of resistance with the use of antimicrobial drugs has been documented in both inpatient9 and outpatient settings.10Keywords
