Abstract
Young fronds were stimulated at temps. ranging from zero-35[degree]C for periods previously found as the presentation times. Prolonged exposure to 0[degree]C does not affect the vitality, and response to a gravitational stimulus at this temp. takes place on removal to 20[degree]C. The optimum and maximum rate temps. for graviperception in this plant are near 25[degree]C; below this temp., presentation time and latent time are equally affected; above, a time factor operates,[long dash]the presentation time increasing progressively, and the latent time, after an initial rise, remaining constant. The coefficient of reaction is 1.188 X104 and 1.45 X 104 for presentation time and latent time respectively. Exps. in which the fronds were stimulated at 30[degree] the response taking place at 20[degree] and vice versa, show that the injurious high temp. affects the initial ("perception") and not the end ("response") links in the chain of geotropic reaction.
