Abstract
This investigation was supported by a Medical Research Council Award. Rat maxillary molars have an inclination towards the buccal aspect, whereas the mandibular molars have an inclination towards the lingual aspect and an angulation of tilt which increases progressively from the first (M1) to the third (M3) molar. The tilt of the maxillary molars was similar for all the teeth and required only 1 angle calculation. The mandibular molars, when the mandible was laid on a flat plane, have their inclinations reduced by the gradual roll away from the horizontal plane of the whole mandible due to shape and growth. The long axis of the first molar (M1) is nearly parallel to the horizontal by 35 days.
