Abstract
The energy spectrum of atomic ions emerging from a gas-filled chamber under the influence of a strong uniform axial electric field is investigated. Experiments were carried out with Ar+ ions in Ar at different gas pressures. Variation of ion energy distribution with pressure was measured. Observations covered the collision-free regime and extended into the collision-dominated regime. Keywords
