Abstract
Burrow visits and vocalization patterns were examined on bright, intermediate and dark nights in a Manx Shearwater Puffinus puffinus colony consisting mostly of non-breeding birds. Contrary to previous reports for this species, many non-breeders return to the breeding colony on bright nights, although they may arrive later than on dark nights. Once in the colony, Shearwaters emit fewer calls, and they tend to remain in one burrow on bright nights rather than court outside the burrow or prospect in adjacent burrows, as they do on darker nights.
