Abstract
A report is provided on an investigation of the variability of the National Crime Survey (NCS) statistics attributable to interviewers. Interpenetrated assignment patterns were used to estimate the effects of interviewers on data from the eight impact cities of the NCS cities sample. Such a design permitted estimation of the interviewers' contributions to the correlated component of response variance for a selected group of items for each impact city. The effects of NCS interviewers on the survey statistics varied among the cities and according to the nature of the statistics. Keywords
