Abstract
About 50 novel liquid crystalline 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives incorporating a carboxylic group or anoxymethylene unit have been prepared. The dependence of the liquid-crystal transition temperatures of this new class of compounds on diverse central linkages, chain lengths, alicyclic structural units and lateral substituents has been studied systematically. Most of the compounds exhibit broad smectic C mesomorphic ranges. Keywords
