Abstract
A new genus and species of weasel is named and described from the early Pleistocene Java local fauna of South Dakota. The animal was a small, highly carnivorous species characterized by loss of the second lower premolar, loss of metacone and metacone root on the first upper molar, specialized orbital region, and other unusual features. The genus morphologically resembles Mustela, but the specialized dentition and orbital region disallow close evolutionary ties with extinct or extant species of Mustela. Keywords
