Abstract
During 1962-66 immigrants to Australia from England and Wales adopted predominantly non-violent methods of suicide, with a ratio of non-violent to violent methods more akin to that in their country of origin than to that of the Australian-born. However, the rank ordering and percentage distribution of specific methods of suicide (E 970-979) among the immigrants was much closer to that pertaining to the Australian-born than to their country of origin. The immigrants tended to adopt the more common methods of suicide prevalent in Australia, with a reduction of those more common methods in England and Wales. Variations in the latter with period of residence in Australia are discussed. Keywords
