Production of muon pairs inKL0Cuinteractions

Abstract
The dimuon production mass spectrum has been measured with a beam of 4-20-GeV/c KL0's incident on a copper target. The production of μ+μ pairs resulting from the decay of vector mesons (ρ, ω and φ) was observed with a cross section of 55 ± 10 nb per nucleon for xF>0.25 based on a specific production model. In addition we measured upper limits for μ+μ pair production cross sections with xF>0.25 of 20 nb per nucleon for mμμ<0.5 GeV/c2 and 35 nb per nucleon at the ψ(3100).
