Abstract
A recently proposed and developed coupler (C. Dragone, IEEE J. of Lightwave Technol., vol.7, no.3, p.479-89, 1989) with an optimized efficiency between 34% and 55% is considered. It is shown that a 100% efficiency figure can be achieved by using a properly designed space-varying refractive index slab. A wave-mixing method for configuring the slab is proposed. The analytical results are summarized. Keywords
