Abstract
Gastrograph experiments on 14 barbitalized dogs showed that anoxemia of sufficient grades causes an inhibition of the digestive movements of the stomach as evidenced by a constant decrease in the amplitude of contraction and a frequent fall in tone. A plausible explanation of the mechanism is a sensitization of the sympathetics by the rise in blood pH concomitant with the hyperventilation of the early stages of anoxemia. The results are a partial repro duction of the clinical picture of the gastro-intestinal upsets in cardiac disease. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
