Abstract
EDITOR, - R Scragg and colleagues report that if a Maori mother smokes and shares her infant's bed the infant's risk of dying of the sudden infant death syndrome is increased.1 Their suggestion that bed sharing increases the risk of the syndrome even in the absence of maternal smoking, however, needs to be considered with caution.
