Chronic Pyelonephritis: Relative Incidence in Transplant Recipients

Abstract
IN 1963 Murray and Harrison1 reported that glomerulonephritis was the commonest disease among 50 patients undergoing kidney transplantation. Similar findings have been reported from other transplant centers,2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 as well as in a report of 71 patients with terminal chronic uremia in which those with a doubtful diagnosis had been excluded.14 Including patients from the latter group, 232 of the total of 386 had glomerulonephritis as compared with 87 with pyelonephritis (Table 1) The 232 includes some with both glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis, and the 87 includes patients with pyelonephritis secondary to anatomic abnormalities of the urinary tract.
