Carbohydrate metabolism in human trypanosomiasis

Abstract
In 12 sleeping sickness patients in Uganda (compared with natives not infected with Trypanosoma gambiense) hypoglycemia was exceptional during the earlier stages. Treatment with tryparsanide gave variable results: the blood-sugar level might rise or fall, or not change. Glucose tolerance tests indicated very little if any impairment of the capacity of the liver to utilize glucose.
