Aspergillus leporis, a New Species Related to A. flavus

Abstract
A new sp. in the A. flavus group, A. leporis States et Christensen, is described. It is characterized by compactly columnar conidial heads, biseriate sterigmata, and large, indeterminate sclerotia which are dark-colo?ed with white apices, elongate, and often coalescent. The conidia typically are olive in color, but a stable variant with golden-yellow conidia arose as a sector in one of many subcultures. The type culture was isolated from white-tailed jack rabbit dung (Lepus townsendii): 3 additional cultures were obtained from surface soil collected in a northern Wyoming sagebrush community.
