Scanning Electron Microscopical Observations on the Cytopathology of Porcine Enteroviruses in PK-15 Cells

Abstract
Examination by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of [porcine kidney] PK-15 cells infected with each of the 2 cytopathogenic types of porcine enterovirus revealed changes similar to those observed by light microscopy. Differences between the 2 types could be detected at an earlier stage of the infection. Cells infected with T8o virus (type I) were rounded, with surface microridges, while V13 (type II) infected cells were characterized by cytoplasmic protrusions.
