Abstract
The spectrum of the nonthermal emission arising from the irradiation of a dense plasma by very intense linearly polarized laser light, as recently discussed qualitatively by other authors, is evaluated quantitatively by the method of steepest descents. It turns out that the directional properties of the radiation pattern differ essentially from those expected by invoking an analogy with synchrotron radiation. Keywords
