Abstract
Segregation for glume pubescence was studied in diallel crosses involving 10 varieties of durum wheat, 3 of which were pubescent. The pubescent variety Kahla gave an unexpected ratio of 3 glabrous to 1 pubescent in crosses with glabrous varieties. No segregation was observed in crosses between Kahla and the other pubescent varieties. The inheritance of this character is considered to be governed by an allelic series Hg, hg, and a newly discovered gene hg. The gene hg, is recessive to hg but like Hg it conditions the expression of pubescence when homozygous. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
