Abstract
Standard e.m.f.s at 25° for the cells H2|HX|AgX–Ag (X = Br or I) in 20·22, 33·40, 50·00, 68·33, and 90·00%(w/w) methanol–water mixtures are reported. Some attention to the preparation and use of hydrogen electrodes in these media is required. In particular, no hydrogen electrode that would function in a borax buffer in the 90% mixture could be prepared, but a combination of a palladised electrode with a buffer of potassium hydrogen phthalate was used successfully in the application of Owen's method for E°m,HI to this system. Keywords
