Abstract
A dedicated instrument for the quantitative determination of urea in blood serum or plasma has been developed. The instrument uses urease immobilized on a porous alumina support and a gas-detecting electrode to measure ammonia resulting from hydrolysis of urea. Reproducibility and recovery studies show a high degree of accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. Comparison of patient samples (plasma and serum) show no statistical difference when compared to the diacetyl monoxime, Auto Analyzer method. Keywords
