Abstract
After subjecting rats to acute, fatal anoxia in a low pressure chamber, the volume of the extracellular fluid of cardiac and skeletal muscle was detd. with Na24. The extracellular water of the hearts from anoxic animals was 36.3% of the wet wt. of the tissue, while the extracellular water content in the myocardium of normal rats was 28.0%. Significant increases were observed in the total water content of hearts from rats subjected to anoxia. No differences were found in the distr. of tissue fluid in skeletal muscle. Keywords
