Abstract
Occasional failures of the culture medium KDM2 to support satisfactory growth of the kidney disease bacterium Renibacterium salmoninarum (Rs) have been experienced. The failures were traced to the fact that not all production lots of a commercially available peptone, an important ingredient of the medium, support good Rs growth. This held true even though the peptone lots were obtained from the same manufacturer. To ensure KDM2 failures are avoided, only single peptone production lots, tested and shown to be satisfactory, should be used in formulating this medium.
