Abstract
The present paper treats the problem of simultaneously simulating the spacecraft and space. The combined problem is analysed, and the similarity groups that affect this simulation are deduced; they include a criterion from which it is possible to determine the extent to which actual space is simulated by a facility. The analysis takes into account the effect of the earth on the thermal behavior of an artificial satellite, and the means by which this effect could be simulated. The problems involved in simulating space with “warm-walled” chambers, important from the viewpoint of reducing initial and operation costs, are discussed in length.
