Abstract
Since October 1990, 336 patients with symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia were treated with transurethral microwave thermotherapy(TUMT). The technic of treatment, the inclusion and exclusion criteria for TUMT treatment are discussed. Temporary urinary retention, probably due to edema of the prostate, developed in about 25% of the patients. Results are presented with a follow-up period of up to 1 year. In the majority of patients a significant subjective response was shown. Objective improvement was less pronounced. Keywords
