The Determination of N-Methylformamide and N-Methylacetamide in Urine

Abstract
N-methylformamide (MMF) and N-methylacetamide (MMAC), the principal metabolites of dimethylformamide and dimethylaceitamide, when present in urine in concentrations between 5 and 500 µl/liter can be measured by direct injection of an aliquot of a specimen on a Chromosorb 103 column of a gas chromatograph. The sensitivity of the method can be increased to measure 0.3 µl/liter of MMAC or 0.5 µl/liter of MMF by chromatographing dichloromethane extracts of concentrated urine residues.
