Abstract
A review is presented of ultrafast all-optical switching in guided wave formats for broad bandwidth all-optical communication networks. The physics underlying ultrafast optical nonlinearities is discussed and the application of these nonlinearities to data transmission and all-optical switching is covered. Keywords
