Abstract
The phenomenon of unwed fathers seeking custody of their offspring is a recent development in the adoption custody process. The motives of these young men are varied and not necessarily related to the child's “best interests,” as can be seen in several case studies cited. Their intervention, moreover, often creates custody disputes with the prospective adoptive parents that can have unfortunate consequences for the infants involved and that raise many questions about parental rights and children's rights. The latter are explored in terms of their implications for therapists and attorneys. Keywords
