Abstract
The relations existing between source dimensions, beam divergence, luminosity, and resolving power of a 180° homogeneous field spectrometer are established. From these the conditions for maximum luminosity for a given resolving power are derived. By increasing the source height and slightly decreasing the width, the luminosity may be increased without affecting the resolving power. Keywords
