Phospholipide Metabolism in Various Tissues of Cholesterol-Fed Rabbits.

Abstract
Rabbits maintained 5 months on a diet supplemented with 1% cholesterol and 2.8% fat showed marked increases in phos-pholipid synthesis in aorta, plasma and whole liver, and increased phospholipid concentrations in aorta and plasma. The 2-fold increase in fresh liver weight was not due to fatty infiltration but appeared to be an increase in protoplasm. No significant alterations in phospholipid turnover occurred in kidney, lung, muscle or small intestine. Tissues exhibiting increased phospholipid turnover were those in which lipid accumulated and a possible relationship between the 2 processes is suggested.Keywords
