Abstract
The manufacture and use of organochlorine insecticides in the United States decreased dramatically during the 1970s, in part because of their adverse effects on fish and wildlife and the tendency of these compounds to bioaccumulate. Organochlorine insecticides used in agriculture were replaced by the organophosphorothioate and pyrethroid insecticides, which possessed a comparable spectrum of insecticidal activity but were far less persistent in terrestrial and aquatic environments. Keywords
