Abstract
In his recent communication (Ellis, 1974), Dr. Ellis suggests that radioresistant tumours with high values of the survival curve extrapolation number are best treated with large doses per fraction, with large intervals between successive fractions. We have recently completed a theoretical analysis, using elementary principles of optimal control theory, which strongly supports this contention (Kirk and Wheldon, 1974; Wheldon and Kirk, submitted for publication). Keywords
