Abstract
Previous measurements of the vocal tract have been based on lateral x rays, laminagrams, dental casts of the oral cavity, and readings from specially constructed calipers. The present study extends the basis for these measurements by the use of a cast of the pharynx. The subject was inverted and dental impression material was inserted up to (sic) the level of the arytenoid cartilages. Tables have been constructed which relate the cross dimensions of the vocal tract as seen on lateral x rays and the cross-sectional areas as required in calculations of the corresponding sound waves. Keywords
