Abstract
Interpretation of research articles need not be the domain only of statisticians and educational researchers. A basic understanding of what to look for in an article that compares group performance averages is presented here. One t test and one F ratio are discussed with regard to their significance as cues to interpretation of standard statistical analyses. It is anticipated that the knowledge to be gained by approaching research reports from this perspective will far outweigh the effort spent to develop the interpretative skills.
