Abstract
A classification of the octahedral tilt systems in perovskites is given, based on the work of Glazer1 but extending it and using a new notation; this leads to a simple description of the sequences of phase transitions, and shows how they are related to the soft modes M3 and R25. Examples from the literature are discussed. Keywords
