Abstract
Sharp upper and lower bounds of the Chebyshev type are established for the probability of error due to intersymbol interference and additive Gaussian noise in a digital communication system. The results are in relatively closed form, and the only statistical knowledge assumed about the interference is the peak eye opening and the variance. The bounds apply to correlated and uncorrelated signals and for any signal to noise ratio.Keywords
