The isolation of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and related halophilic bacteria from Canadian Atlantic shellfish

Abstract
A survey of Canadian Atlantic shellfish was carried out to determine the presence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Twenty-eight strains, closely resembling authentic strains from Japan, were isolated from unfrozen specimens of shellfish obtained at local retail outlets. Six isolates were obtained from shellfish collected and frozen by the Inspection Branch, Department of Fisheries and Forestry.
