Abstract
In Landon Creek, the type locality of the Duntroonian Stage, the sequence is as follows (ascending order): McDonald Limestone (lower Whaingaroon); disconformity and bored surface; blocky limestone penetrated by greensand; Kokoamu Greensand (Duntroonian); Otekaike Limestone (Lower Waitakian to Duntroonian) passing laterally into thin rubbly limestone conglomerate; disconformity and bored surface; Gee Greensand (Otaian). A local “high” of McDonald Limestone rose intermittently from late Whaingaroan to Waitakian time, interrupting sedimentation locally in the eastern part of the Oamaru district. The more complete Whaingaroan to Duntroonian sequences in the Waitaki Valley are important for defining the Duntroonian. Keywords
