Abstract
Compactification of twelve-dimensional space-time with geometry the product of Minkowski space-time with an eight-sphere requires a gauge group which contains Spin(8). This procedure leads to left-right asymmetric gauge couplings to fermions. A model with gauge group Spin (18) has four chiral families. Keywords
