Abstract
An approximate theory is developed which gives the average apparent absorption due to weak Bragg reflected beams; the theory is compared with a previous treatment due to Gj⊘nnes; calculation of the average apparent absorption due to this mechanism shows it to be small compared with the absorption due to thermal scattering and core excitations. Keywords
