Diverse Immunocytologic Findings of Nasal Smears in Influenza

Abstract
EVIDENCE that the rapid diagnosis of influenza might be possible by means of fluorescent-antibody technic was first presented by Liu1 , 2 This finding was confirmed by Japanese3 , 4 and Czechoslovakian5 , 6 workers. We modified the technic of Liu in obtaining nasal epithelial cells and extended the experiment further. The only difference between his and our technics was that we obtained the nasal smears directly from the nasal cavity by means of a cotton swab instead of using nasal washings.
