Abstract
Parathyroids of pregnant rats nephrectomized 24 hours before delivery on the 22nd day of pregnancy, show increased parathyroid activity. The foetal parathyroids are also enlarged and have an increased mitotic rate and there is a significant positive relationship between the foetal parathyroid volume and the serum phosphorus of the mothers. Hence it is reasonable to assume that the stimulus for the foetal parathyroids is the same as that for the mothers, i. e. the altered calcium-phosphorus homeostasis after nephrectomy. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
