Fragilitas Cutis Inguinalis

Abstract
In 63 out of 200 patients with a wide variety of diseases the apparently normal inguinal skin readily ruptured when stretched. This phenomenon was related to obesity, but not to age, sex, diagnosis, or the presence of striae. The histo-logical appearances of the ruptured skins are described. Histochemical studies did not reveal any involvement of elastic tissue. This phenomenon could be termed "fragilitas cutis inguinalis". A similar phenomenon was not detected elsewhere on the body, except, occasionally, in the submammary fold.
