Abstract
With nine complement components now identified, it has become apparent that the system provides an extraordinary degree of control for the immune response. In the third article of a series on immunology, the sequential relations and functions of the different complement components are described, and the possibility is projected of manipulating the system for clinical advantage. Keywords
