Abstract
Digital computers go back to the early 1940's, but significant work in computer science and engineering educaion was not to be seen until the 1960's. Originally, the customer training and education provided by the manufacturers resented virtually the only computer education available. Then in the 1950's, a large number of private computer schools emerged to fill the burgeoning demand for computer personnel. Finally, with encouragement from industry and guidance from the professional societies, computer science and engineering programs began to be offered in institutions of higher learning. Keywords
