Abstract
X‐ray diffraction patterns have been recorded of the surface of an activated iron electrode during anodic oxidation in . At the end of the first plateau (−0.8V relative to a reference electrode), only and are detected. At the end of the second plateau (0.0V), and are detected on the first discharge. On subsequent discharges, a gradual conversion to and is observed. In saturated with , and are detected at the end of the second plateau on the first and subsequent cycles. Keywords
